Whistler RCMP launched a traffic enforcement operation this week in the Cheakamus neighbourhood following a public complaint about drivers failing to stop at two key intersections.
On April 16, the Sea to Sky RCMP received reports of ongoing safety concerns, with multiple vehicles allegedly not coming to a complete stop at posted stop signs. In response, General Duty Watch and Community Response Team members conducted enforcement on April 17 and observed widespread violations consistent with the complaint. Officers issued several tickets to non-compliant drivers.
“We want individuals who report their concerns to know that we take these complaints seriously,” said Cpl. Katrina Boehmer, media relations officer, for Sea to Sky RCMP. “With the spring weather, pedestrian and cyclist traffic is rising. It’s crucial that motorists obey stop signs and that all road users remain alert at intersections.”
BC Motor Vehicle Act requires drivers to stop at stop signs. Offenders face a $145 fine, totalling $167 with additional fees. Anyone who wants to report a concern or crime can contact Sea to Sky Whistler RCMP at 604-932-3044, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
