Whistler is inviting the community to celebrate the life and legacy of Al Raine, a trailblazer in the ski and tourism industries, at a special reception this Wednesday. Known for his understated demeanor and visionary leadership, Raine left an indelible mark on the development of iconic ski communities, including Whistler and Sun Peaks.
The event, organized by the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) and Tourism Whistler, will take place at the Whistler Conference Centre on January 15. Friends, family, and colleagues will gather to honour Raine’s contributions to the ski world and share memories of a man revered for his thoughtful leadership, business acumen, and generous spirit.

The program will feature opening remarks by Whistler Mayor Jack Crompton, followed by a live simulcast from the Sun Peaks Centre, where speakers will include members of Raine’s family, ski industry colleagues, and community leaders. Highlights will include:
Tributes from Acting Sun Peaks Mayor Len Hrycan, Olympic skier Derek Robbins, and BC ski industry representatives Jennifer Doan and Christopher Nicolson. Personal reflections from Raine’s brother Bill, his sons Willy and Charley, and his wife Nancy. A slideshow celebrating Raine’s life and career, concluding with closing remarks from Nancy, Willy, and Charley.
Following the simulcast, attendees at the Whistler reception will have the opportunity to share personal stories and raise a glass in Raine’s memory, with final remarks by Mayor Crompton at 5:30 p.m.
