Whistler Golf Club and Tourism Whistler have announced a $10 million renovation of the Whistler Golf Club’s course as part of the comprehensive master plan redevelopment.
The renovation begins in September 2025 and aims to elevate the course’s playability, beauty, and safety. This large-scale renovation will result in the temporary closure of the Whistler Golf Club from September 2, 2025, through to early summer 2027, when the course will reopen to showcase its contemporary new design. The Whistler Golf Club is 41 years old and requires significant updates to remain current and competitive, according to a press release by Tourism Whistler.
“This master plan has been years in the making, and we’re excited to see it finally come to fruition,” says Alan Kristmanson, General Manager of the Whistler Golf Club. “We began this journey three years ago to elevate our course to new heights. We look forward to getting underway next fall.”
Barrett Fisher, President & CEO of Tourism Whistler, which manages and operates the Whistler Golf Club, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Tourism Whistler is delighted to see this comprehensive renovation proceed, as it will raise the stature of golf in Whistler, continuing to elevate the resort as a world-class summer and golf destination.”
Under the direction of golf course architect Thad Layton, formerly with Arnold Palmer Course Design, the project will feature significant enhancements, including:
Complete Rebuild of Tee Complexes – Redesigned and added tee complexes to suit golfers of all skill levels.
Bunker Overhaul – Repositioning, rebuilding, or eliminating bunkers in select cases to improve playability.
Fairway and Hole Redesigns – Reconstruction of multiple fairways and reimagining holes 4, 8, and 18.
Greens Realignment – The greens on holes 3 and 12 will be shifted to improve sightlines and ensure optimal player safety.
Cart Path Improvements – Updates to cart paths, including replacement, realignment, and removal in select areas for enhanced flow.
“It’s been a sincere pleasure working with Whistler Golf Club GM Alan Kristmanson and his team on the comprehensive plan to reinvest in their one-of-a-kind golf course. With approvals now secure, I couldn’t be more thrilled to break ground next fall – it’s going to be quite a transformation!” said Thad Layton, Golf Course Architect, Thad Layton Design
During the renovation, the Whistler Driving Range and Whistler Golf Club Retail Shop will continue to operate as per typical seasonal dates. Upgrades to Palmer’s Restaurant are also being considered, but details and timelines are still to be confirmed. A “Renovation Open House” in spring 2025 is planned.
