Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC), an environmental not-for-profit group that collects and recycles scrap tires has announced it will be collecting residential scrap tires at the Devine Transfer Station Collection Event on May 8, 10 and 14.
The event will take place during business hours at 9575 Pemberton Portage Road (5 km south of D’Arcy, B.C.). Passenger vehicle, motorcycle and bicycle tires will all be accepted.
“We are excited to be out in communities across British Columbia to collect residential scrap tires and recycle them into new products,” said Rosemary Sutton, Executive Director, Tire Stewardship BC. “Recycled rubber is versatile. Community playground surfaces, athletic tracks, recreational flooring in ice skating areas, fitness rooms and home gym mats can all be made from the tires we collect and recycle.”
Since 1991, over 100 million tires have been recycled in B.C., and TSBC’s scrap tire recycling program is one of the most successful in North America and the oldest recycling program in Canada. Every year in B.C. over five million scrap car tires are recycled into new products.
“TSBC is always looking for opportunities throughout the province to participate in community events, and to partner with businesses, organizations and local governments that focus on recycling and environmentally sustainability,” continued Sutton.
TSBC currently has 16 Return to Retailer (R2R) locations in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District that residents can visit throughout the year and return their scrap tires for free. Visit https://tsbc.ca/recycle-your-tires/ to learn more.
