The BC SPCA says people have raised over $23,000 for an injured puppy found under Lions Gate Hospital.
Spirit, a German shepherd cross puppy, was found limping underneath the Lions Gate bridge by a good Samaritan who brought him to an emergency veterinary clinic.
“When Spirit was examined at the clinic it was determined he had a shattered pelvis requiring immediate medical attention,” says Sarah Henderson, animal care supervisor at the West Vancouver BC SPCA.
“He was administered pain medication by the vet and was scheduled for surgery to treat the injury. He will need four to eight weeks of physiotherapy to fully recover and may also require aqua therapy. He will be on bed rest and pain management for six weeks.”
Donations are still being sought as Spirit will need vaccines, and other veterinary treatments, including deworming and neutering. Henderson says that Spirit’s foster cannot get enough of this sweet boy. He is cuddly, affectionate and bonds quickly with people and is desperate to play with the foster’s older dog.
“Spirit is eager to please, mild mannered and loving and is doing well with his house training,” says Henderson
When Petsecure Pet Insurance learned about Spirit’s injury, the company generously offered to match all medical donations up to $3,000 to help with his care and other animals who need urgent medical help. Spirit will be available for adoption in approximately four weeks.
